As I said when I ran I believe the Founders wanted ordinary citizens to serve for a term or two. If you believe I have been a good Treasurer then I ask for your support to be re-elected to a second, and final term.
I have also kept my promise of returning all phone calls and be willing to sit down with anyone who approached me to see if we could find answers to their questions, or to learn from each other.
Another goal I had was to create an atmosphere where employees would want to come to work and serve the public. One of the best compliments I have received is from a taxpayer who told me that the staff in our office seemed happy to be there.
I feel I have done this by writing legislation to eliminate usurious penalties on delinquent property tax and allow partial payments that will fit any taxpayer’s budget. I am sympathetic to those who get behind on property tax due to job loss or illness because it can happen to any of us. We shouldn’t make it more difficult than it needs to be. We are here to serve the public and not be self-serving.
When I ran in 2010 for County Treasurer I said the Founding Fathers wanted ordinary citizens to run for elected positions to guard against the insularity of office and provide oversight for the public.
